What Is the Super Lawyer Award?

The Super Lawyers Award is a prestigious title given by Thomson Reuters. It is primarily a peer-recognition award that considers attorneys from over 70 different practice areas across all 50 states. Out of thousands of attorneys, only the top 5% in each state are selected as Super Lawyers. Lawyers are nominated by their peers for consideration. While the selection process relies heavily upon peer evaluation, Super Lawyers also chooses winners based on independent research. Attorneys can nominate fellow colleagues based on their personal, first-hand observations. They are also discovered in the independent research phase conducted by the research department at Super Lawyers. Candidates are considered based on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. The list of winners and their bios are featured annually in the Super Lawyers Magazine, which is distributed to law firms and ABA-accredited libraries nationwide. It is also published as a special section in other select magazines. Those with the highest point totals are recognized on Top lists, as Chris Hellums was listed on the Top 50 list twice for the 2020 year.It is the 13th consecutive year for both Lee Pittman and Tom Dutton, as well as the ninth year for Chris Hellums and the second year for Mike Bradley to receive the Super Lawyers Award.

What Is the Rising Star Award?

With the Super Lawyers Award going to the top 5% of attorneys in each respective state, the Rising Star Award is given to only the top 2.5%. As the site notes, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger, or in practice for 10 years or less in order to be eligible for a Rising Star Award.This year, Pittman, Dutton, Hellums, Bradley & Mann attorney Jon Mann was selected as a Super Lawyers Mid-South Rising Star. It is his sixth year receiving the award.
