Pittman, Dutton, Hellums, Bradley & Mann, P.C. has been ranked in the 2027 edition of Best Law Firms in the United States. The firm earned a National Tier 3 ranking for Mass Tort Litigation and Class Actions for Plaintiffs, along with Birmingham Regional Tier 1 rankings in four practice areas and Regional Tier 2 rankings in three more.
For a Birmingham firm that has spent decades fighting for injured Alabamians, this recognition reflects something our clients already know: when the stakes are high, our attorneys deliver.
Best Law Firms is produced by Best Lawyers, one of the most established names in legal recognition. It debuted in 2010 and is rooted in a peer-to-peer, industry-driven evaluation.
Firms can’t simply buy their way onto the list. To be eligible, a firm must have at least one lawyer recognized in the current edition of Best Lawyers in a Best Law Firms practice area and geographic jurisdiction. From there, the rankings draw on client and professional reference evaluations, peer review from leading attorneys, industry leader interviews, and review of additional information provided by the firm.
Clients and references are asked about real-world experience with the firm, including experience, responsiveness, understanding of the client’s needs, cost-effectiveness, civility, and whether they would refer another client. Firms are then compared against peers in the same practice area and location, with tiers stratified somewhat like a curved grading system. Tier 1 includes firms closest to the highest scores.
In other words, these rankings reflect what clients, other lawyers, and industry leaders actually think of a firm’s work.
Most of our rankings are regional, comparing us with other Birmingham firms. Our Mass Tort Litigation and Class Actions ranking is different. It places Pittman, Dutton, Hellums, Bradley & Mann among plaintiff firms recognized at the national level.
Mass tort and class action cases are some of the most demanding cases in the law. They often involve dangerous drugs, defective medical devices, harmful consumer products, environmental contamination, or corporate misconduct affecting large numbers of people. These cases pit injured individuals against major corporations with enormous legal budgets. Winning requires deep resources, scientific and medical expertise, and the willingness to take powerful defendants to trial.
A national ranking in this area reflects our ability to stand toe to toe with those defendants and win for the people they harmed.
Our four Birmingham Regional Tier 1 rankings cover the heart of our practice.
Personal Injury Litigation - Plaintiffs. Car accidents, truck accidents, drunk driving crashes, premises injuries, and catastrophic injuries. Alabama’s contributory negligence rule means that being found even 1 percent at fault can bar recovery entirely, so experienced trial lawyers make a real difference.
Medical Malpractice Law - Plaintiffs. Medical negligence cases require a strong grasp of medicine, skilled use of expert witnesses, and the resources to stand up to hospitals and their insurers.
Product Liability Litigation - Plaintiffs. When defective vehicles, machinery, drugs, or consumer products cause injury, manufacturers must be held accountable. These cases often require engineering and scientific experts and extensive investigation.
Mass Tort Litigation / Class Actions - Plaintiffs. In addition to our national ranking, the firm earned Tier 1 recognition in Birmingham for this practice area.
Our Regional Tier 2 rankings in Commercial Litigation, Antitrust Litigation, and Insurance Litigation show the range of complex cases our attorneys handle. Our insurance litigation experience is especially valuable for injured clients, because nearly every injury case is ultimately a fight with an insurance company. Knowing how insurers evaluate, delay, and deny claims helps us push for full value.
Rankings don’t win cases. Preparation, experience, and determination do. But independent recognition can help you choose a law firm with confidence when you’re facing one of the hardest times of your life.
When you hire Pittman, Dutton, Hellums, Bradley & Mann, you’re hiring a firm that:
Insurance companies and corporate defendants know which firms will actually go to trial. That reputation often leads to better settlement offers for our clients.
These rankings are built on feedback from the people we serve and the lawyers who see our work up close. We are grateful to our clients for trusting us with their cases and to our colleagues in the legal community for their respect. Most of all, this recognition belongs to the injured people and families who had the courage to stand up and demand accountability.
